Shape of Your Wave is a week to step out of routine and into rhythm—your own. Rooted in surf, movement, and creative expression, this retreat invites you to reconnect with what feels natural, intuitive, and alive.

Days move between the ocean and the senses: surfing, yoga, shared meals, and new creative practices woven through the week. From cooking alongside a local chef to exploring expression through art and movement, each experience is designed to open space mentally, physically, and creatively.‍ ‍

You’ll leave with more than just rest. There’s a shift that happens through curiosity, toward creation, a deeper connection with people, culture, and an environment that make Lobitos what it is and stays with you after you leave.

THE PLAN FOR

THE WEEK

Saturday

Arrival day with some free time to explore Lobitos and a decompression yoga to finish the day. Meet your coaches and fellow retreatees.

Sunday-Friday

Our days shift with the tides. Every night we check the forecast and set the plan so you’re always surfing the best conditions. Each morning, you’ll have time to meditate with the sunrise from your private balcony, and then join in Yoguita, a surf warm-up on the yoga deck with Danielle Harbord. Four times a week she’ll also guide full hour (legendary) classes, tailored for how we’re adjusting to ocean life. Expect surf lessons daily with Harold Koechlin, and 3 surf theory and video analysis sessions for key learning and typically— comic relief.

Group Excursion & Activities

The week unfolds beyond the surf. We’ll explore the cliffs of Playa Las Capullanas through a guided spiritual experience, harkening the feminine powers that once ruled this land, then come together for a shared “Dolphin Tank” dinner, an intimate evening of stories, ideas, and connection with local NGOs.

This edition brings new ways to experience and express, from cooking alongside a local chef to exploring creativity through art workshops, moving through a salsa session in an abandoned warehouse, and documenting your time here through a personal oceanic inspired photoshoot.

In between, there’s space to follow your own rhythm—whether that’s heading out on a fisherman’s boat, restoring the body, or simply slowing down enough to take it all in.

STAYING IN LOBITOS,

EXPLORING CULINARY AND CULTURE

It’s hard to define Lobitos, some call it a paradise, a ghost town, an oasis; whatever you call it, it is certainly off the beaten path.

What we can say is Lobitos is built on a tight-knit artisanal fishing community, with world class surfing and a talented, unknown art scene. Most people find their way here by word of mouth, creating a natural filter for more conscientious travelers.

Largely off the radar of mass tourism, it is deeply connected to grassroots NGOs and environmentalist groups. The balance between the old and inspirational is in total equilibrium, with a warm and welcoming door that opens for global visitors who honor the local balance.

CULINARY TRACK

At the center of the experience is our private chef, Tristana Perroncel, whose approach to food is both expressive and deeply connected to place. Her style is rooted in plant-forward cooking, complemented by fresh catch-of-the-day fish, and guided by a spirit of experimentation—where curiosity, creativity, and transformation come through in every dish. Each meal is mindfully curated, prepared, and presented, creating a sensory experience that feels both nourishing and inspiring.

During the week, guests are invited into a hands-on culinary workshop led by Tristana—an opportunity to step into the creative process, explore local ingredients, and engage more intimately with the act of cooking. It’s a space to experiment, learn, and connect, where food becomes a medium for expression and shared experience.

Beyond our home kitchen, we open into the wider food culture of Lobitos. We intentionally dine at family-run, hyper-local restaurants—ensuring tourism directly supports the community while offering a deeper, more authentic experience of the region. From fresh ceviche and causas to contemporary coastal dishes and local cocktails, each meal becomes a moment of connection, story, and celebration.

WHERE YOU’LL STAY

Family-run Buena Vista was one of the first hotels in Lobitos. Owners Claudia and Augusto Correa still call it home and that's exactly what it feels like during your stay. They have poured their heart and soul into every detail; from the lush fruit garden, to private pool, Indonesian-inspired decor and breathtaking views from the Mirador (look out point), no detail is unaccounted for.

Proud parents of Alonso Correa, who placed 4th in Men's Surfing at the Paris Olympics, the Correa's are not only a pillar of the Lobitos community, they are recognized across Peru as national treasures and we are so stoked and grateful to partner with them for our retreats.

PERSONALIZED

TRAVEL

ADD-ONS

For some of our guests, tacking on a customized experience surrounding the retreat can be a nice add-on. We work with your schedule and interests to craft spectacular journeys before or after the retreat. Here are some of those options:

Cusco & the Sacred Valley – Mountains & Mysticism: A popular option amongst retreat guests, think about adding a leg to your trip in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. This unforgettable combination includes high-altitude hikes, sacred ceremonies (including Plant Medicine options), stunning archaeological tours—yes, including Machu Picchu— and once-in-a-lifetime culinary experiences. These trips run a minimum 5 days.

The Amazon – Into the Jungle: From ocean to rainforest, we send you deep into the Amazon. Expect bold flavors, indigenous art, waterfalls, expansive wildlife, plant medicine, treks, and textiles in some of the most biodiverse places on earth. These trips are a minimum of 3 days.

Gastronomy & Chill: As you are probably aware, Lima is home to some of the top ranked restaurants in the world, with Maido and Central leading the charts. Peruvian rich agriculture yields some of the most delicious fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices you can imagine. We always recommend a couple key culinary experiences in Lima upon arrival, but if food and relaxation is your thing, we would be elated to plan a whole trip around food and leisure, just for you.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

  • I was inspired to join the retreat to check out a more off-the-beaten-path corner of Peru and to connect with more like-minded people. The atmosphere that was created by the retreat-goers as well as all of the instructors and hosts was great. Especially in the water! Everyone wanted everyone to succeed and catch as many waves as possible. I felt like I had my own personal hype squad whenever I stood on my board.

    Raquelle Dernyck, Canada

  • I always loved retreats but I really wanted to do it differently, in a way that connects with the local community and gives back. That is why I picked La Onza retreat. I loved every single part of the experience. But the way that we interacted with the local community, we felt like “being part” of Lobitos in such a small period of time, was probably the highlight of the trip!

    Maria Tobia, NYC

  • I felt like I learned the mechanics to keep teaching myself to surf. The surf team was rad. Team lead, Harold, is a legend character that can only be experienced, the words don't exist.
