THE PLAN DURING
THE WEEK
Saturday
Arrival day with some free time to explore Lobitos and a decompression yoga to finish the day. Meet your coaches and fellow retreatees.
Sunday-Friday
Our days shift with the tides. Every night we check the forecast and set the plan so you’re always surfing the best conditions. Each morning, you’ll have time to meditate with the sunrise from your private balcony, and then join in Yoguita, a surf warm-up on the yoga deck with Danielle Harbord. Three times a week she’ll also guide full hour (legendary) classes, tailored for how we’re adjusting to ocean life. Expect surf lessons daily with Harold Koechlin, and 3 surf theory and video analysis sessions for key learning and typically— comic relief.
Midweek Group Excursion & Activities
Halfway through, we will venture out to the cliffside of Playa Las Capullanas with local guides to catch sunset. Later in the week, we share dinner with the local NGOs and hear about their projects in a “Dolphin Tank” style gathering. We also have the opportunity to join a local fisherman as he ventures out on an atrisanal boat. Anything we catch gets whipped up into ceviche on the spot. At the end of the week you’ll enjoy our night market with live music at La Onza Café, discover local art, meet the makers, and connect with the community.
Extra Activities
Between surfing, yoga, tons of ceviche, we leave time for massage, acupuncture or equine therapy, or you can opt to meet more of Lobitos by joining skate classes or volunteering at kids surf lessons with local NGOs.

STAYING IN LOBITOS,
EXPLORING CULINARY AND CULTURE
It’s hard to define Lobitos, some call it a paradise, a ghost town, an oasis; whatever you call it, it is certainly off the beaten path.
What we can say is Lobitos is built on a tight-knit artisanal fishing community, with world class surfing and a talented, unknown art scene. Most people find their way here by word of mouth, creating a natural filter for more conscientious travelers. Largely off the radar of mass tourism, it is deeply connected to grassroots NGOs and environmentalist groups. The balance between the old and inspirational is in total equilibrium, with a warm and welcoming door that opens for global visitors who honor the local balance.
We begin each retreat week with the intimacy of a private chef, creating a grounded arrival through shared meals at home, before opening the doors to Lobitos and inviting guests into the local food scene. As the week unfolds, we intentionally venture out to family-run, hyper-local restaurants—honoring our core value of ensuring tourism directly supports the local community and creates meaningful economic impact beyond our own table.
Our in-house culinary experience is led by Tristana Perroncel, a Peru-based chef whose approach to food is creative, thoughtful, and deeply connected to place. Her cooking centers on colorful, plant-forward Peruvian–Mediterranean infusions, with thoughtfully prepared fish, highlighting indigenous ingredients and local produce. Each meal is designed to feel clean, nourishing, and flavorful—helping our global guests land gently, feel energized, and attune to the climate and rhythm of northern Peru.
Beyond our home kitchen, we immerse guests in the broader culinary culture of the region, sharing traditional Peruvian and contemporary fusion dishes—from fresh ceviche and causas to classic saltados—paired with local cocktails. These meals become moments of connection, story, and celebration, rooted in the everyday life of Lobitos.
Family-run Buena Vista was one of the first hotels in Lobitos. Owners Claudia and Augusto Correa still call it home and that's exactly what it feels like during your stay. They have poured their heart and soul into every detail; from the lush fruit garden, to private pool, Indonesian-inspired decor and breathtaking views from the Mirador (look out point), no detail is unaccounted for.
Proud parents of Alonso Correa, who placed 4th in Men's Surfing at the Paris Olympics, the Correa's are not only a pillar of the Lobitos community, they are recognized across Peru as national treasures and we are so stoked and grateful to partner with them for our retreats.
MEET OUR TEAM
PERSONALIZED
TRAVEL
EXPERIENCES
For some of our guests, tacking on a customized experience surrounding the retreat can be a nice add-on. We work with your schedule and interests to craft spectacular journeys before or after the retreat. Here are some of those options:
Cusco & the Sacred Valley – Mountains & Mysticism: A popular option amongst retreat guests, think about adding a leg to your trip in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. This unforgettable combination includes high-altitude hikes, sacred ceremonies (including Plant Medicine options), stunning archaeological tours—yes, including Machu Picchu— and once-in-a-lifetime culinary experiences. These trips run a minimum 5 days.
The Amazon – Into the Jungle: From ocean to rainforest, we send you deep into the Amazon. Expect bold flavors, indigenous art, waterfalls, expansive wildlife, plant medicine, treks, and textiles in some of the most biodiverse places on earth. These trips are a minimum of 3 days.
Gastronomy & Chill: As you are probably aware, Lima is home to some of the top ranked restaurants in the world, with Maido and Central leading the charts. Peruvian rich agriculture yields some of the most delicious fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices you can imagine. We always recommend a couple key culinary experiences in Lima upon arrival, but if food and relaxation is your thing, we would be elated to plan a whole trip around food and leisure, just for you.
WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY
-
I was inspired to join the retreat to check out a more off-the-beaten-path corner of Peru and to connect with more like-minded people. The atmosphere that was created by the retreat-goers as well as all of the instructors and hosts was great. Especially in the water! Everyone wanted everyone to succeed and catch as many waves as possible. I felt like I had my own personal hype squad whenever I stood on my board.

I always loved retreats but I really wanted to do it differently, in a way that connects with the local community and gives back. That is why I picked La Onza retreat. I loved every single part of the experience. But the way that we interacted with the local community, we felt like “being part” of Lobitos in such a small period of time, was probably the highlight of the trip!

I felt like I learned the mechanics to keep teaching myself to surf. The surf team was rad. Team lead, Harold, is a legend character that can only be experienced, the words don't exist.
