Getting to
Peru

You will fly into:
✈ LIM — Jorge Chávez International Airport

Any airline that works for your schedule is fine,
however our favorites are LatAm and Delta.

Pro Tip:book this as a round trip ticket so you have your top and tail flights locked in and get a preferrable price.

Connecting Flights

In addition to your international flights, you need to book separate roundtrip domestic flights within Peru. We recommend booking directly through LatAm Airlines.

Flights You Need to Book

If you are joining us for Machu Picchu + Lobitos retreat, you will need to book Flight 1 and Flight 2. If you are joining us for our classic surf & yoga retreat (Shape of Your Wave), you only need to book Flight 2.

Flight 1

Lima ⇄ Cusco

Lima → Cusco: This should be booked as a roundtrip ticket, departing Lima and arriving in Cusco on Day 1 of the retreat, which means your international flight needs to arrive at least 2 hours before the departure. A group airport transfer will meet everyone at the Cusco airport at 2:00PM. There is usually a 12:35PM flight leaving Lima to arrive in Cusco at this time.

Pro Tip: If you prefer arriving earlier, you’re welcome to, we recommend relaxing in Cusco’s historic center around Plaza de Armas while waiting. Just let us know in advance so we can coordinate your pickup separately.

Cusco → Lima: We will fly together on Day 4 on the 2:50PM flight departing Cusco for Lima. If you need to leave separately, please ensure you are in the Lima Airport no later than 4:30PM in order to comfortably make the evening connection to Talara (see Flight 2).

Flight 2

Lima ⇄ Talara

Lima → Talara: If you are joining the Machu Picchu retreat, please book the evening flight to Talara, there is typically one around 7PM. If you are joining us for the classic Shape of Your Wave retreat, you can book any flight to Talara that fits with your layover and flight plans.

Talara →Lima: Book any return flight that works best with your international connection home on the final day of the retreat!

Pro Tips: We recommend allowing a comfortable buffer of at least 2 hours between your flights in Lima as well as international departures. Remember to pick up your bags on the carousel between flights and check back in at the International desk, unless you have coordinated luggage transfer to your final destination with your airline.

Once you have your flights booked, be sure to share them with the retreat leads so we can track your transfers for a seamless journey! Reach out with any questions and share flight details with hello@laonza-space.com or by replying to your registration confirmation email!

Layovers in Lima

For all of our retreats, you need a connecting flight to meet us, and sometimes the gap between the flight into Lima and the connection can be over 8 hours, creating a long layover.

In other cases, you might choose to spend extra time in Lima to explore the city. Whatever the circumstance here is what you need to know about arriving in Lima.

Long Layovers

Best Neighborhood: Barranco

Barranco is Lima’s most vibrant and creative neighborhood, a coastal district known for its colorful streets, historic architecture, art galleries, cafés, world-class restaurants and relaxed bohemian energy. Set above the Pacific Ocean, it offers beautiful cliffside walks, some of the city’s best restaurants.

If you are planning to visit Lima before joining the retreat, we recommend staying in this neighborhood as a home base. Our favorite plae to stay is:

  • Barranco Boutique Hotel by 3B — affordable, clean, well located, this is a great place to drop your things, explore the neighborhood and sleep soundly, with a front desk, airport transfer service and security.

Staying Near the Airport

If your layover is a bit shorter and going into Barranco isn’t an option, you may prefer something closer to the airport: Here are some great options:

  • Wyndham Grand Hotel — ideal for overnight, walking distance from the arrivals gate, and we’ve heard great things about the breakfast buffet!

  • Sleepover Pods — perfect place for a comfortable rest, whether that’s an overnight sleep or few hours nap, these pods are brand new and equipped with showers and beds.

  • Luggage storage counters — if you have a daytime layover and are curious to check out a bit of Lima, you can also drop your bags at a secure storage counter, grab and Uber and head into the city. This is perfect for daytime layovers of 8-10 hours.
